Custom Acoustic Baffles for Sports Facilities – International College, Ain Aar (Lebanon)
Introduction
Large indoor sports facilities—such as basketball courts, gymnasiums, and multi-purpose halls—pose unique acoustic challenges. High ceilings, hard surfaces, and expansive volumes often lead to long reverberation times (RT), causing speech intelligibility issues, discomfort, and excessive noise buildup.
At Acousystem Group, we design, manufacture, and install bespoke acoustic solutions tailored to each project’s functional and architectural needs. Our recent project at the International College (IC) in Ain Aar, Lebanon involved the complete delivery of over 1,000 custom acoustic baffles for the school’s indoor basketball court—a 5,000+ m³ space used by students, athletes, and visitors.
Working closely with the project architect, we created a system that delivered exceptional reverberation control while integrating seamlessly into the building’s design.
Why Acoustic Control Matters in Large Indoor Sports Spaces
- Reduces reverberation for better speech clarity
- Improves comfort for players, spectators, and staff
- Meets acoustic standards for educational institutions
- Supports multi-functionality for sports and events
What Are Acoustic Baffles?
Acoustic baffles are vertically suspended sound-absorbing panels designed to reduce noise buildup and shorten RT in large-volume spaces. They are particularly effective in areas where floor and wall space is limited, allowing treatment without disrupting activity zones.
Performance: NRC between 1.10 and 1.35.
